dream race list

Active.com sent me some food for thought today. Damn you, dirty Active...

I'm going to start my list of Dream Events. This is a list of events I'd like to do some day, for various reasons (some of which will be obvious). This is an "if money were no object" list. I thought I'd write it all down and see how I feel about it in a year. If I'm still mad for it, maybe I'll work on actually doing it.

The Venice Marathon. I've been to Venice twice now - both occasions were very memorable. I heart Venice. I would like to run through Venice. Of course, it's not a big city, so a marathon wouldn't be circuit laps around the island (though that does have a certain appeal...). The course starts on the mainland and works its way onto the Island. Running to the Piazza San Marco could take my mind off the last few miles of a marathon, don't you think?

Ironman 70.3 Monaco. Dangit, looks like they stopped doing the Nice course, have you been to Nice? Nice is so nice. The 70.3 bike course for the Monaco 70.3 uses the part of the Formula 1 race course. That means it's purdy! I've been working on my Outlaw teammates to do the 70.3 in Monaco - perhaps next year or the year after.

A bicycle tour of Italy. Oh yeah. I could totally see me en famille touring Italy by bicycle - supported of course. It seems there are lots of great touring companies who will support you on this sort of thing - you can get anywhere from 30 to lots more miles a day, whatever terrain. They haul your luggage from point to point. All I have to do is bike, eat pasta, enjoy scenery, have fun with the family. I think the girls will have to be a bit bigger before we take that on...

Alcatraz Triathlon
Is it just me, or does Alcatraz look crazy hard? I'm told it's do-able. This is kind of a B-fantasy race. It just looks cool.

Ironman Switzerland. Can you tell I'm a total sucker for alpine scenery? Woof. I mean, if I'm going to go and do a really tough race, I should do it on a beautiful course. I love Switzerland. I spent a few days in Lucerne a few years ago....OK, it was about 11 years ago. But still. Do you think it's changed? Do you think that lake is any less beautiful? Probably not. I bet those goats are still in the valley with their little goat bells, saying "meeeh".

Leadville 100 - now that's a crazy fantasy. It's not that I want to go running up and down some mountains at 10,000 ft (OK, maybe it is, since I seem to be doing that lately), it's the ability to go and run up and down 100 miles of mountains at 10,000 ft that I have huge mucho respect for and would love to be able to do some day.

I'm always open to more food for thought. Please - fuel my fire. Tell me what your fantasy races are.

The Reggae Marathon, ireie mon!

Ironman New Zealand or Australia or both

Ironman Japan

Ok, maybe I'd just like to do every Ironman but some are certainly higher in the desire category.

I too want to do Leadville…and Western States.

Maybe I should start keeping a list too, there are zillions of races I'd like to do.

mmmmmmmm.........Alcatraz.... ask me in a couple of weeks after I've done the swim part if I'll do it with you. The bike and run aren't that hard.

I read about this in a running magazine while lazily pedaling on the exercise bike at the gym. Can't say I'd ever even want to do it- but it's crazy! http://www.comrades.com/

A friend and I are waitlisted for the Antarctica Marathon (moreso my friend's dream race than mine, but I'd be happy to tag along).

Antarctica Marathon!?!? Wha???

I want to do the Jake's off road sprint tri in Jamaica. And there's a HIM in Cancun I'd like to do on my 40th birthday. Someday, I'll do an Ironman - any IM would be a dream but a cool locale would make it better.

A bike tour of France would be up there on my list, also.

I'll have to mull this one over - its a good idea to have your fantasies/goals written down for posterity.

Oh, I totally posted the Antartica marathon on the Outlaws website last year. the race netry fee is only like $20.00 but it costs like $4,000 to get you to the start line!

Well nobody's said it... what about the original Marathon: Marathon to Athens, Greece (http://www.athensmarathon.com/)? It's also the course they ran in the 2000 Olympics.

Thanks for your comment about trying to fix my blog! Hopefully it is now working. Who knew??
Oh, and I was going to say something about the wetsuit/shoulder issue. I went to a next larger size and the shoulder/low back problem went away. And I could breathe better. Its not baggy or anything, just goes on and comes off easier too.

i'd do... berlin marathon, cycle tour through fwance, italy... hell, take me on a cycle tour through europe (fantasy = i'm loaded and don't work), cycle the katy trail (us) and cycle around australia (that's in australia).

other fantasies? moving out of the city so i can have more critters: more greys, more cats, mini goats, a pig and a cow, 3-5 alpacas.
