shameless plug for money

On September 12th and 13th, the New Mexico Outlaws Triathlon Racing team will race in the Outward Bound Colorado Relay. The relay, which I've described before, is a glorious 170 mile trot across Colorado. This year we start in Georgetown and end in Carbondale. Our team of ten fearless (mostly) triathletes (mostly) will take on this challenge, come wind, rain, snow or shine.

Given my history with the race, we're likely to see all of that.

We've been planning this race since, oh, October, so I think we've mostly got it together. We're all pretty excited about it. It promises to be good wholesome fun, or at least, very smelly fun.

One of our requirements is to raise money for this little endeavour. Outward Bound, the relay organizers, are a non-profit organization that help connect kids with the outdoors. However, they aren't taking the money from our donation efforts. The Outward Bound people have selected a charity called "Judi's House" this year, and as soon as I read about them, I thought I was going to cry. Here's a little blurb on what Judi's House does:

Judi’s House was founded by Brian Griese in honor and in memory of his mother who died when he was twelve years old.

The vision of Judi's House is a community in which no child has to feel alone in grief. Our mission is to help children and families who are grieving the death of a loved one find hope and healing within themselves. At Judi's House, an environment of acceptance and understanding allows children and adults in peer support groups to share the experience of loss with others. Judi’s House increases awareness and knowledge of grieving children’s needs by extending grief support services to schools, faith-based groups, hospices, and other caregivers in the community.

As soon as I read that, I thought, I want to give them money RIGHT NOW!!
