I'm still un-well. Stupid cold. My operating strategy, to now, has been to play dead until the Rhino gets off me. So far, however, the Rhino has sat on me, and sat heavy. Now it's dug in its heels, and settled into my chest. I guess after having a whole year of pretty good health, it was time to get sick. Le sigh.
So my strategy now is to try and beat the rhino off with my pillow. However, my coach has thrown a new concept at me: it's called Do Nothing.
What? Time off from training? The hell you say!
He says 3 weeks of nothing. Nothing? Are you kidding? What will I do with myself? No, it's true. The more I read about athletes who take actual time off from training, the more I'm convinced this is a good thing. And then I'll follow this up with 3 weeks of Active Recovery.
Between the cold, the ITB weirdness, the sudden elevation in Pikachu activities, and the impending holidays, it hasn't been hard to convince to me to back off the training, and increase the sleeping. My version of nothing, so far, has included Pilates. Oh, how I missed you, Pilates. And some spinning.
Last night I went to the gym and did a whole 500 yard swim with a lot of gliding. 500 yards? What's the point? Then I sat in the hot tub. Then I played with the weights for a little bit, then I went home. It was nice just to GO to the gym for a change.
Today I just can't fit a workout into my busy schedule, so I think I'll bag it.
(Did you note the sarcasm in that statement? It was there - go back and look for it.)
Next up on the agenda is the local turkey trot/trek/waddle, so I suppose I'll have to go run a bit just to assure myself that my legs still work and my lungs won't completely implode next Thursday.
When I run a 5K.
When did a 5K become a nothingburger?
As long as I'm registering complaints, why does my blog read at an Elementary school level when Moi's blog reads at Genius level? Geen. Yuss.
I really have nothing to complain about. I'm in good health, aside from the stupid cold. But in case I needed to be reassured, I (accidentally) found the Helsinki Complaint Choir, who showed me what a really well constructed complaint can sound like. Watch and learn, my friends. Watch. And. Learn.

Perhaps your liberal use of "pikachu" automatically demotes your blog to elementary school level!
That was GREAT! Thanks for the link. "bullshitters get on too well in life". True dat.
Get well soon!!!!
I think you answered your question about the 500 yard swim - HOT TUB!... Put your foot in the WA-tah!
That Helsinki choir does make me feel better - much better.
And my blog is also at the elementary level. I think it's 'cause we keep it clean!
Hope you feel better soon!
i was gonna have to go lookin' on the high seas again for yah matie!
Hey, glad you're still out there, but dang that stupid cold!
Time off will be good. I haven't been doing that much lately either.
I don't know what level my blog is...prolly preschool :)
Hope you have a fun Turkey 5K! The hubby and I are doing the Turkey Trot...maybe we'll see you, but I know there are three different ones in town.
On se niin väärin!
Indeed.
Hope you feel better soon!
I love that word nothingburger. Back in the days I thought 1 mile was too far to run and now I get angry when I have to run less than 5. Have a good holiday and enjoy the 5K. We are doing a 10K (only so I don't feel guilty about the second helping)
Its not fair!! Hope you feel better soon. And kick the Turkey Trot's ass. Just cuz.
Because you, my dear, are a Mizundastood Geen Yuss.
Sorry to hear you're still sick. That sucks. Can't you do something environmently Geen Yuss to get rid of the germs invading yer body?
I haven't been able to run (too much SEC-ing, Memphis BBQing, and beer quaffing) in four whole days and feel like a slug. A muy guilty slug. So you go on out there and trot that turkey for those of us who are in a different kind of recovery.
I'm doing the Rio Rancho 10K turkey run thing. It's called the Hobbler Gobbler. You should come up on the Mesa and do it. It's a real run...not like that silly turkey trek that takes off from the park...
Sorry to read you've been sick. Colds do suck.
Hang in there... and get your rest. Race season will be there when you're ready.
Stay tuned...
Are you over the stupid cold yet?!?
