I changed a tire!

Actually, all told, I think I changed 3 tires.

My beloved rode over some crushed lightbulbs or something and flatted out his rear tire on his bike. Only I, the Wonder Pirate, could save him from his desperate plight.

No, seriously. He didn't know how to patch the tube. I thought that knowledge came with the testosterone?

I had a recent crash course in changing bike tires, because I figure it's gonna happen - it's not an if, it's a when. So he put on a patch (but didn't use enough glue) which didn't hold. Then he handed it over to me. If he's gonna hand me a tire, he'd better get with washin' the babies (division of labor being fair and all that).

So I repaired said tube, and replaced it in the tire, put the tire back on and inflated it (yay! my work here is done!). Then the tire went flat (boo!). Turns out that crushed glass went straight through the tube through the other side into a seam (double boo!). Bye bye tube!

Put in a new tube, replaced the tire again (yay!). Forgot to remove the nut from the presta valve and had to take it all apart again (d'oh!). Put the nut back on correctly, put the tube and tire back on again (yay!). Inflated and waiting -- let's hope it's good. Now I'm worried it's pinched in there...oh well, I guess he'll find out on race day.

My fellow chick riders, changing a tire is not hard and I didn't even get very dirty. The downside is, I will now be looked at for all things mechano-wockle where the bicycles are concerned, and I don't even think it's a downside.

Just call me Grease Monkey...
